Rock Hill’s Christmas Parade is going virtual. Here’s how you can participate.
Rock Hill’s famous Christmas parade will look a little different this year.
It will be online.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the parade, which has been a tradition in the city for decades, will no longer take over the city’s downtown streets, according to a release from the city.
The virtual parade will include video submissions from residents, broadcasted on CN2 and on the Rock Hill Parks, Recreation and Tourism Facebook Page on Dec. 4 at 6:30 PM, the release said.
Applications for parade entries are now open on the city’s website. Parade entry forms also are available at any recreation center or by calling 803-329-5620.
To stay within the allotted TV coverage time, a limited number of entries will be accepted and entries will be considered in the order submitted. Videos should not exceed 30 seconds. Submission tips are on the city’s website.
Since the pandemic started in mid-March, there’s been a total of 4,834 coronavirus cases confirmed in York County.
In the county, officials have administered 46,901 COVID-19 tests since March, with 13.9% coming back positive, according to DHEC data. The county’s weekly average of percentage positive — which indicates how widespread the virus is — has fallen since it hit a high in mid-July.
On July 18, about 22% of all tests were positive. On Sept. 14, the total was at 15%.
The 29730 ZIP code, which includes Rock Hill and extends to the Lesslie community, has the most coronavirus cases in York County with 1,203.
