Water main break in Lake Wylie; service interrupted, boil advisory on, provider says

Customers are without water and a boil advisory has been issued after a water main break in Lake Wylie, officials said.

The pipe is being repaired by the Blue Granite Water Company, the company said in a statement on its Website and social media.

The boil water advisory remains in effect for Blue Granite customers in the area, according to the company.

“As a precaution, we are issuing a boil water advisory until further notice,” Blue Granite said in a statement to customers. “We ask that you please boil your water vigorously for at least 1 minute before drinking or cooking with it.”

York County Public Works Director Eric Rekitt said the pipe repair is being done by Blue Granite and affects only the company’s customers.

Customers were advised by Blue Granite that water pressure will be low or their service will be interrupted as repairs are made.

“The necessary repairs are underway and should be completed as soon as possible,” Blue Granite said in a statement. “Once the repairs have been completed, normal water quality and pressure will be restored to your home.”

It remains unclear when water service will be restored to affected customers, or when the boil water advisory will be lifted.
