Charlotte man dies in fiery Lancaster County, SC crash, coroner says

A Charlotte man died after a fiery weekend crash in South Carolina, officials said.

Richard Arthur Kruse, 77, was killed in the crash Saturday on U.S. 521 in Lancaster County, said Karla Knight-Deese, Lancaster County Coroner.

Kruse was heading north on the highway when his vehicle went off the side of the road and struck a tree, said Master Trooper David Jones of the S.C. Highway Patrol. The vehicle then burst into flames, Jones said.

Kruse died at the scene, officials said.

The crash remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and the S.C. Department of Public Safety.

The fatality is the 14th on Lancaster County roads in 2021, public safety statistics show.
