Looking for Halloween plans? Here are the biggest events happening in York County

The end of October each year is a mesh of family-friendly and frightening events across York County. There are fall festivals and scary scenes. There are costume contests. There’s always lots of candy.

Again this year Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Lake Wylie and other places have special events planned to celebrate Halloween. Many large community events are free. There also are plenty of businesses with their own special festivities.

Here’s a look at some of the many ways to celebrate Halloween in York County this weekend.

Boo Ha-Ha

Downtown Rock Hill will host the 38th annual Boo Ha-Ha at Fountain Park. The free event runs 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Some food and drink will be for sale. Boo Ha-Ha will have decorated pumpkins and large inflatable creatures. Costume contests and trick-or-treating are included.

Scarecrows

Fort Mill will host its seventh annual Scarecrow Crawl through Oct. 31. Almost 120 scarecrows placed by businesses, schools, churches and other organizations line the downtown area. Most are on Main Street or beside Millstone Park. The public can vote for favorites in a number of categories on the town Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages, through Oct. 29.

Fall Festival

The Tega Cay Fall Festival will be 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Glennon Community Center. There will be a DJ and live music performance, food trucks, crafts and a kid zone with a costume parade.

Field Day Trick or Treat

A trick-or-treat event at Field Day Park in Lake Wylie also will celebrate the one-year birthday of the 32-acre park and sports complex. The 1-4 p.m. event 30 includes community booths with treats, and food and drink vendors.

Tricks & Treats

Northside Recreation Center in Rock Hill will host its third annual Tricks & Treats event Oct. 29. The 5-8 p.m. indoor event put on by the city parks, recreation and tourism department includes candy, a costume contest, music and crafts.

Scarowinds

Scarowinds continues at Carowinds in Fort Mill through Oct. 31. The nightly Halloween event 7 p.m. to midnight includes haunted house areas, mazes, entertainment and rides.

Lanterns and Legends

The Lanterns and Legends Walking Tour will continue Oct. 28-30. The Fort Mill History Museum will share secrets from the town’s past in the tour recommended for age 12 and older. Tickets are required.

Creepy Campout

Ebenezer Park in Rock Hill will have a Halloween Creepy Campout 6-8 p.m. Oct. 30. There will be trick-or-treating and decorated campsites, along with a site decoration contest. Area businesses and organizations will decorate shelters and facilities.

Trunk or Treat

A Trunk or Treat event at the Emmett Scott Recreation Center in Rock Hill will be 6:30-9 p.m. Oct. 30. The free event has candy, food and cash prizes for costume and dance contests that start at 8 p.m.

Boo-seum

The Main Street Children’s Museum in downtown Rock Hill will host Boo-seum 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Oct. 29 and 30. Special 90-minute play sessions include Halloween-themed sensory bins, crafts, games and stories. Pre-registration is required.

Nightmare on Congress Street

York will host A Nightmare on Congress Street on Oct. 31. The 4-8 p.m. event is downtown. It includes trick-or-treating, a street festival, games, costume contest, food trucks and more. Seven downtown York establishments, many of them churches, will hold York Trunk or Treat 6-7 p.m. in the same area.
