In need of a free Christmas meal? Here are five places to go in the Rock Hill-area
If you or a loved one are unable to prepare meals for Christmas this year, we’ve got you covered. While many food drives and toy drives have wrapped up for the season, some organizations in Rock Hill, Clover and Lancaster are offering free meals on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Here’s a list of where to go.
Rock Hill Community Fridge
On Christmas Eve, holiday meal boxes including rolls, ham, green beans and mashed potatoes will be handed out by the Rock Hill Community Fridge. Anyone who needs one can pick one up at the Mercantile at 130 W. White St. in Rock Hill, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen
The Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, at 902 Crawford Road in Rock Hill, will serve Christmas Eve from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will only be dine-in service.
St. Mary’s Church
St. Mary’s Church will deliver meals to anyone in need on Christmas Day. Those looking for a meal can call ahead and tell the church how many plates they need at any time. Call Regeana Phillips at 803-370-8999.
Clover Open-Air Flea Market
The Clover Open Air Flea Market will be serve Christmas dinner (turkey or ham) at noon Christmas Day. They will serve to-go plates only, to as many families as possible. “The more the better,” says owner David Bowles. If you want a meal, pull up to the market, wait inside your car, and a volunteer will come to take your order. The market is at 406 Kings Mountain St., Clover. Locals are encouraged to drop off any cooked meals or desserts by the end of the day.
The Eye & Laser Center
The Eye & Laser Center in Lancaster is giving away enough food to feed 100 people, starting at 11 a.m. Anyone can come to the office to get chicken, green beans, mac and cheese and dessert, until supplies run out. The address is 1240 Colonial Commons in Lancaster.
