A man driving a pickup truck was killed Sunday in a crash in York County that blocked traffic for several hours on S.C. 161, police said.

The name of the male driver, age 34, has not yet been released by the York County Coroner’s Office.

The collision between the truck and an SUV happened around 4 p.m. on Old York Road and Pennington Road, said Lt. Michael Chavis of the Rock Hill Police Department.

Officers found the truck driver on the ground after he had been ejected in the wreck, Chavis said.

The two people in the SUV were not hurt, Chavis said.

The collision happened near the Newport area close to the entrance to the Walmart and shopping plaza at the northwest edge of the city. Traffic was detoured around the crash site for several hours while police investigated. The road has since re-opened.

The Rock Hill Police Department Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (STAR team) is investigating.
