Non-profits in York County now can apply for extra funding for utility, rent assistance
The United Way of York County has received two grants that will allow the organization to distribute funds to other non-profits across York County.
The first grant, of $265,624, was given under the Emergency Food and Shelter Programs (EFSP) for Phase 39 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in York County. United Way also will receive $85,941 under the American Rescue Plan Act – ARPA-R plan.
The funds must go to organizations that provide utility and rent or mortgage assistance. The local United Way of York County Board will determine how the funds are distributed.
A special board is responsible for fair distribution. The board is made up of a diverse group of individuals.
The amount of money a non-profit receives will be based on need.
Here’s how to know if your organization is eligible to receive funding:
Under the terms of the grants from the National EFSP Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:
- Be a private voluntary non-profit or unit of government
- Be located in and serve residents of York County
- Be eligible to receive Federal funds and provide agency Federal Tax ID number and their DUNS number
- Meet financial accounting standards
- Practice nondiscrimination
- Demonstrate the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs
- If they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board
- And meet required documentation and reporting standards for utilization of Federal funds.

United Way of York County was selected to receive theses funds by a National Board that is chaired by the U. S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The board has representatives from American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, USA, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, The Jewish Federations of North America, The Salvation Army; and United Way Worldwide.
