South Carolina state police are investigating after two women were found dead after a house fire in Chester County, officials said.

The victims in the fire that happened Saturday have not been identified, Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker said Tuesday.

Cause of death has not yet been determined, coroner officials said. Autopsies of both victims were scheduled for this week, Chester County Coroner Terry Tinker said.

Barkley Ramsey, Chester County Fire Coordinator and Fire Marshal, said both victims were found deceased in the home after the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Chester County and state officials, Ramsey said.

Chester County officials and the Great Falls Police Department notified the State Law Enforcement Division because of the two fatalities, Ramsey said. South Carolina law requires SLED to be part of any fire investigation where there are fatalities, Ramsey said.

Great falls is a town of about 2,000 people in southeastern Chester County near the Catawba River between Rock Hill and Columbia.
