Pedestrian hit by SUV in Chester County SC dies at Charlotte hospital, trooper says

A pedestrian hit by a vehicle in Chester County near Interstate 77 has died at a Charlotte hospital, officials said.

The collision happened around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on S.C. 9, said Trooper Joe Hovis of the S.C. Highway Patrol. The area is east of I-77.

The person who was struck by the SUV was airlifted by helicopter to Atrium Health in North Carolina, fire officials and Hovis said. The person died at the hospital Friday afternoon Hovis said.

The name of the person who died has not yet been released by the Chester County Coroner’s Office.

Richburg Fire-Rescue and Lando Fire Departments responded, Richburg fire officials said in a social media posting.

The collision remains under investigation by the highway patrol and coroner’s office, officials said.

The fatality is the fourth on Chester County roads in 2022, according to the S.C. Department of Public Safety.
