Police seek public’s help: 79-year-old man with Alzheimer’s missing in Fort Mill

Police in Fort Mill are asking for the public’s help in finding a man with Alzhiemer’s Disease who is missing.

William Eddie Weldon, 79, is believed to have walked away from his home on Friendfield Drive, Friday morning between 4 a.m and 8 a.m., said Bryan Zachary, chief of the Fort Mill Police Department.

Weldon suffers from Alzheimer’s, Zachary said. The condition can cause dementia, according to the Alzheimer’s Association Web site.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, Weldon had not been located, Zachary told The Herald.

Patrol deputies and a K-9 unit from the York County Sheriff’s Office are assisting with the search.

The area where Weldon lives is in York County, north of the Catawba River, and south of S.C. 160 near Dobys Bridge Road.

Weldon is a white male around 5 feet 8 inches tall and 150 pounds.
