York County man identified as drowning victim in Catawba River near Rock Hill

The body of a swimmer found in the Catawba River in South Carolina after a two-day search has been identified as a York County man, officials said.

The body of Cooper Graham Lane, a 20 year old from the unincorporated community of Catawba near Rock Hill, was found in the river Monday afternoon after the drowning death, York County Coroner Sabrina Gast said in a news release.

Lane’s body was found by the York County Sheriff’s Office dive team near S.C. 5 at the border with Lancaster County, coroner and sheriff officials said.

A search for Lane started Sunday evening, paused after dusk and resumed Monday. York County and Lancaster County deputies, York County and Lancaster County Emergency Management officials, and Lesslie Fire Department firefighters searched the water and banks around railroad and motor vehicle bridges that cross the river.

Autopsy and toxicology results are pending, coroner officials said.
