Body found in Clover SC identified. No foul play involved in death, officials say

South Carolina officials have released the identity of a person whose body was found in Clover last week.

The person, whose body was found in woods on Aug. 17, was identified Monday as Jason Hodge, 39, of Clover, said Sabrina Gast, York County Coroner.

The identity was confirmed after an autopsy in Charleston at the Medical University of South Carolina hospital, Gast said.

Gast and Clover Police Department Sgt. Tracy Reid said there are no signs of foul play.

Clover police Capt. Logan McGarity told The Herald the police investigation showed Hodge had not been seen by family or acquaintances for at least three weeks before his body was found. Hodge had not been reported missing before his body was found, McGarity said.

Clover police and the coroner’s office are continuing to investigate.

The body was found by a passerby in the woods near a Credit Union where S.C. 55 and Ole Cambridge Road intersect, officials said.

The area is east of downtown Clover, and south of the North Carolina state line with Gaston County.
