Driver killed in York County crash after hitting tree, SC troopers say

A driver was killed Monday in a western York County crash when a car hit a tree, officials said.

The collision happened around 10:40 a.m. on S.C. 49 between the city of York and the town of Sharon, said Master Trooper Gary Miller of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The driver was the only person in the 2013 Ford sedan that went off the road and struck a tree, Miller said. The identity of the driver who was killed has not yet been released by the York County Coroner’s Office.

The wreck remains under investigation by the coroner and the S.C. Department of Public Safety.

The fatality is the 23rd on York County roads in 2022, public safety statistics show.
