Santa Claus will help usher in Christmas spirit Thursday as ChristmasVille starts up in downtown Rock Hill.

Holiday lights will brighten Main Street, where Christmas carolers will stroll and festival-goers ride in horse-drawn carriages. The four-day festival offers 70 events that cater to all ages.

Most of the events are free.

The event, which starts at 6 p.m., will be at Fountain Park where the Rock Hill RockHettes, named after the famed Radio City Rockettes, will perform. Afterwards, Mother Goose will take children to First Presbyterian for Cookies and Cocoa with Santa.

After the opening ceremony, a children’s choir from Old Pointe Elementary School will perform Christmas carols at the City Hall Amphitheater.

Thousands of people are expected to line downtown streets Friday for the annual Rock Hill Christmas Parade. ChristmasVille will continue through Sunday.

Events include a gingerbread house display Friday at the Center for the Arts.

For Senior Day, handbell ringers will perform at the Jingle Bell Parade & Singing with Seniors at the Lowenstein Building.

Other events include holiday greeting card and candle-making workshops, ornament decorating, a quilt display, a soup kitchen, gift market and farmer’s market.
