Driver dies after truck overturns during crash outside York, highway patrol says

The driver of a truck has died after the vehicle overturned in a crash between York and Lake Wylie, officials said.

The wreck happened after 9 p.m. Monday on S.C. 49, said Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The pickup truck went off the left side of the road, hit an embankment, then overturned, Ridgeway said.

The driver died at the scene, Ridgeway said.

The York County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the person who was killed in the collision.

S.C. 49 is the main highway from York northward toward Lake Wylie and Charlotte. The road was closed for a period of time after the crash between Branch Road and Pioneer Road, according to social media postings from York County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

The crash remains under investigation by the highway patrol and coroner.
