One person killed in York County crash on SC 160 near Fort Mill, trooper says

One person has been killed in a York County crash between Fort Mill and Tega Cay, officials said.

The fatal collision happened Thursday around noon on S.C. 160 near Front Street, said Cpl. David Jones of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The area is near the entrance to Baxter Village, west of Interstate 77.

The driver of a 2007 Ford Focus was killed in a collision with an SUV, Jones said. The driver died at the scene, Jones said.

The driver of the Ford was attempting to make a left turn on to S.C. 160 from a private drive when it collided with the SUV that was traveling on S.C. 160, Jones said. The Ford then struck a third vehicle, Jones said.

The drivers of the SUV and the third vehicle were not hurt, Jones said.

The York County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the person who was killed. The highway patrol and coroner’s office are investigating.

The fatality is the 10th on roads in York County in 2023, according to S.C. Department of Public Safety statistics.
