Pedestrian killed in July Fourth York County collision, SC Highway Patrol trooper says

A pedestrian has died after being struck by an SUV in York County on July 4, troopers said.

The fatal collision happened around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday on S.C. 161, said Cpl. David Jones of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt, Jones said.

The York County Coroner’s Office responded but has not yet identified the person who was killed.

The crash remains under investigation by the coroner and S.C. Department of Public Safety.

The fatality is the 14th on York County roads in 2023, according to public safety statistics.
