A Rock Hill trail designed to connect downtown with the Catawba River is now funded.

South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism announced eight state trail projects Tuesday that received more than $650,000 combined in grants. One project is $100,000 for the Jack White Trail Extension in Rock Hill. That entire project is $125,000.

Last year, Carolina Thread Trail and Catawba Lands Conservancy announced a $30,000 grant for the project. That job would extend Jack White Trail as it runs along Dave Lyle Boulevard. It would connect the Manchester Creek trail network, Catawba River and areas downtown. The existing Jack White Trail is more than a mile.

“Outdoor recreation is booming as communities around the state are putting a higher priority on preserving our natural treasures and enhancing public access to these places,” SCPRT director Duane Parrish said in Tuesday’s announcement.

Carolina Thread Trail, a 15-county organization in the Charlotte metro area, lists a dozen Rock Hill trails or waterways with public access.
