One person died and another was hurt in a Friday morning crash during commute time near Rock Hill.

The crash had caused a road to be closed, officials said.

S.C. 901, also called Mount Holly Road, was closed near the entrance to Pinetuck Lane after the crash, according to a statement from the York County Sheriff’s Office. The road later re-opened, the S.C. Highway Patrol and sheriff’s office said Friday afternoon.

The area is south of where Interstate 77 intersects with S.C. 901 at Exit 73.

The single-vehicle collision on S.C. 901 happened around 7:30 a.m., Master Trooper Gary Miller of the highway patrol said in a statement.

A Jeep went off the side of the road and overturned, Miller said.

A rear passenger in the Jeep died, Miller said in the statement. A front passenger was taken to Piedmont Medical Center, Miller said.

The driver was not injured, Miller said.

The investigation into the collision remains ongoing, Miller said.

The York County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the person who died.
