A motorcycle driver has died after a collision with a pickup truck in Rock Hill, police said.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Celanese Road and Mount Gallant Road, according to a statement from the Rock Hill Police Department.

The 49-year-old woman motorcycle driver who died later at a hospital has not been identified by police or the York County Coroner’s Office.

The collision remains under investigation by the police department’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) unit.

The crash happened in Tuesday afternoon’s commute period.

The area of the crash site west of I-77 is one of the most heavily traveled non-interstate roads in York County. More than 40,000 drivers each day pass through the area where Celanese Road and Mount Gallant Road intersect, according to S.C. Department of Transportation statistics.
