Humorist Jeanne Robertson will headline Hospice & Community Care’s 3rd Annual LOL event Sept. 3 at Baxter Hood Center on Anderson Road in Rock Hill. Proceeds will go to underinsured hospice patients in the community.
The evening will feature an opening reception and lots of laughs. Robertson is an expert in humor – whether regaling audiences with her experiences as a 6-foot-2-inch Miss Congeniality winner in the Miss America Pageant, or outlining the steps to developing a sense of humor.
The author of three books on humor, Robertson has produced six DVD/CD humor programs in the past 11 years and can be heard daily on Sirius XM radio’s Laugh USA family comedy channel.

▪ The Spencer Estates Neighborhood Association will hold its annual “National Night Out” Ice Cream Social and Block Party at 6 p.m. Tuesday on Christopher Circle at Candlewood Lane. Bring homemade ice cream, cake, or other dessert, and lawn chairs. Beverages and paper and plastic products will be furnished. Invite a former or a new neighbor to join you.
▪ The Hunger Outreach Program group, which is comprised of area churches, will host a National Night Out Rock Hill picnic, 6-7 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of Flint Hill Baptist Church, 1214 Flint Hill St. The picnic will be held rain or shine. All area residents are invited to attend.
▪ The Friends of the York County Library summer book sale will be Thursday-Saturday at First ARP Church gymnasium, 201 E. White St., Rock Hill. Thousands of books will be for sale at $2 per inch. DVDs and audiobooks also will be for sale. Opening night for Friends members will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday. Memberships will be sold at the door for $15 for individuals and $25 for families. The sale will be open to the public 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. All items will be half price on Aug. 1. Proceeds go to York County Library programs. ▪ The Master Gardeners of York County’s annual garlic sale will be noon Aug. 7 at the Learning Center at Glencairn Garden, 835 Edgemont Ave., Rock Hill. The sale follows the First Friday in the Garden program, “All About Spiders,” which begins at 11 a.m. and is open to the public. Each year, master gardeners plant and harvest several types of garlic, using different varieties to determine which grow best locally. Varieties this year include: Inchelium Red, Lorz Italian, Creole Red and S&H Silver.Prices range from 50 cents to $2.50 per bulb, with most between $1-$1.50.

▪ The 12th annual Dazzle & Denim fundraiser will be 7-11 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Magnolia Room at Laurel Creek. The event is celebrating Catawba Care’s transition to Affinity Health Center. Hunger relief site

YCCS is a community concert choir comprised of approximately 60 singers who perform large choral works. Volunteers
▪ RideAbility Therapeutic Riding Center in Clover welcomes new volunteers. No experience is necessary; training is provided. The center helps families of children and adults with special needs build and improve strength, balance, core stability, focus, attention and increase confidence and self-esteem with facilitative interaction with horses and riding. RideAbility also serves veterans with its Equine Services of Heroes Program.

▪ The nonprofit Friends of the York County Animal Shelter needs volunteers to help bathe, groom, exercise, socialize, train and provide adoption information for the animals, as well as assist in follow-ups, publicity, marketing and fulfilling other jobs at the shelter.
