Before the 2024 presidential election, candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris brought out thousands of residents from surrounding cities to rallies.

As a photographer for The Herald, I captured Trump in Gastonia, N.C. on Nov. 2, just three days before he was elected president for the second time.

A few miles down the road in Clover, new restaurants are springing up on historic Main Street, joining mainstay Victoria’s Diner.

York County sheriff Lt. Nathan Clark didn’t let an amputated leg keep him from the job he cherishes. Clark commands 21 men and women deputies, who work around York County as school resource officers, and patrols on Lake Wylie.

Friday night lights are wrapping up with state championships drawing near, soon to be replaced by basketball.

Victims of Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina are still trying to pick up the pieces. I headed to Asheville to document the building of tiny homes desperately needed during the cold winter months.

Every day, visual journalists bear witness to the people in our communities and their stories. Some images are pleasant, while others are painful and heart-wrenching to produce.

Our mission is to document truthfully, fairly and with compassion.
