Global Freedom Inc., in partnership with Philadelphia United Methodist Church, will host the Bridging The Gap Summit, an event aimed at offering solutions to the racial issues facing America today. Special events
The annual Shepherd’s Center Luncheon will 11:30 a.m. Oct 15 at Heritage Hall at Westminster Towers, 1330 India Hook Road, Rock Hill. Former Shepherd’s Center board member, Peggy Bradley Angel, will be honored for her leadership and dedication to the Shepherd’s Center. Peggy joined the Shepherd’s Center in 1992 and has served on the board of the Shepherd’s Center, as a volunteer, since 1993.
Entertainment will be provided by the Carolina Copy Cats, a performance troupe of high energy seniors, who entertain with comedy, dancing and lip syncing to popular tunes. ▪ Oktoberfest in Old Town will be 4-9 p.m. Oct. 17 in downtown Rock Hill. The Bravarian style festival includes a beer garden, German food, live music by a strolling accordionist, the Foothills Oompah Band, a children’s amusement area and vendors. The fourth annual Wiener Dog Run starts at 6 p.m. and benefits the York County Humane Society. Registration is required by calling 704-287-6475. Cost is $10. Admission to the festival is free. ▪ The Turning Point of Chester 2015 annual banquet will be 6 p.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene, 182 Pinckney St. Alfred Williams, assistant principal at Chester High School, will speak. ▪ The AARP Local Chapter will sponsor its annual free community shred event noon-1:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at the parking lot of the Rock Hill Housing Authority office parking lot, 467 S. Wilson St. Any confidential and sensitive records and paperwork can be brought for shredding. Remove file folders, envelopes and other packaging material.
Fundraisers
▪ The York County 12th annual Claw and Paw Scholarship Tournament will be Oct. 15 at Rock Hill Country Club. The tournament is captain’s choice with a noon shotgun start. Cost is $200 for two-person team and $400, four-person team. Awards, box lunch, refreshments and snack provided. Scholarships are awarded to four York County high school students; two who attend University of South Carolina and two who attend Clemson. ▪ Touching Hearts in Lancaster County will be 1-5 p.m. Oct. 11 at Andrew Jackson State Park with entertainment by Walker Cobb, arts and craft booths and JJ’s Red Hots from Frank the Tank hot dog truck. Vendor space is available for businesses and arts and crafts with a donation of $50. Church and non-profit groups are $25. ▪ Historic Rock Hill will be host its annual White Home After Dark tour 6-9 p.m. Oct. 24 at the White Home, 258 E. White St. The event includes a spooky, candlelit tour of the home as well as games, ghost stories and treats. Admission, $6, adults, $3, age 17 and younger, free for HRH members.

Hunger relief
▪ The Second Harvest Partners, sponsored by Providence Presbytery, will have hunger relief sites at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Clover Chapel United Methodist Church, 405 Kings Mountain St., and 9 a.m. Oct. 14 at Jerusalem Baptist, 1003 Steele St., Fort Mill. ▪ The Ballroom Dance Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Oak Room of the Fort Mill Golf Course, 101 Country Club Drive. ▪ United Way of Lancaster County need volunteers for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program. ▪ Bethel United Methodist Church will open its Men’s Warming Center in November at 1232 Curtis St., Rock Hill. The center opens around Nov. 15 and closes the middle of March. Volunteers are needed to help run the center. For information, call 803-327 4881.
▪ The nonprofit Friends of the York County Animal Shelter needs volunteers to help bathe, groom, exercise, socialize, train and provide adoption information for the animals, as well as assist in follow-ups, publicity, marketing and other jobs at the shelter.
