The Friends of the York County Library fall book sale will be Thursday-Saturday at the First ARP Church gymnasium, 201 E. White St., Rock Hill. Thousands of books for adults and children will be for sale at $2 per inch. DVDs and audiobooks also will be for sale. Opening night for Friends members will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday. Memberships will be sold at the door; $15, individuals and $25, families. The sale will be open to the public on 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Items will be half price on Saturday. Special events

“Spirits & Stories: Brattonsville by Twilight” will be 3-9 p.m. Saturday at Historic Brattonsville in McConnells. During daylight hours, the living history museum activities include apple bobbing and cider pressing, corn shelling, wagon rides and harvest demonstrations. By twilight, take on a guided lantern tour and listen to historically dressed interpreters tell the tales of those whose legends linger. Bring a flashlight and discover if spirits from the old plantation’s past still roam about. S’mores, cider and doughnuts by the campfire and live music by Night Train Owls will be between 5-9 p.m. Food concessions will be available for purchase by the Friends of Historic Brattonsville. Admission: adults, $6; seniors, $5; ages 4-17, $3; free to Culture and Heritage Museum members and children 3 and younger.

▪ Anne Springs Close Greenway will host Fall Frolic 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays and 1-4 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 1 at the greenway in Fort Mill. The event features horse rides, hay bale mazes, corn maze, pumpkin patch, wagon rides, farm animals and food and beverage vendors. Cost: $10, greeway members; $12, nonmembers; $6, seniors and free for age 4 and younger.

▪ Oktoberfest in Old Town will be 4-9 p.m. Saturday in downtown Rock Hill. The Bavarian-style festival includes a beer garden, German food, live music by a strolling accordionist, the Foothills Oompah Band, a children’s amusement area and vendors. The fourth annual Wiener Dog Run starts at 6 p.m. and benefits the York County Humane Society. Registration is required by calling 704-287-6475. Cost is $10. Admission to the festival is free. ▪ The AARP local chapter will sponsor its annual free shred event noon-1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the parking lot of the Rock Hill Housing Authority, 467 S. Wilson St. Any confidential and sensitive records and paperwork can be brought for shredding. Remove file folders, envelopes and other packaging material.

Fundraisers

▪ A Charity Dog Wash will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday at Fuzzie Butz, 339 N. Anderson Road, Rock Hill. Proceeds to benefit the monthly York County Spay Neuter Shuttle Program, which spays and neuters 35-40 pets every month.

▪ Adnah United Methodist Church fall bazaar and bake sale with vendors will be 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday in the family life center, Adnah Church Road, Rock Hill. Breakfast and lunch will be served. A silent auction and bake sale will be held throughout the event. Proceeds go to local missions. The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas also will have a blood drive 10 a.m.-noon in the parking lot.

▪ Living Beauty Temple No. 709 will host an indoor yard sale Saturday at the Elk Home, 1644 Ogden Road, Rock Hill. Tables are $10. Set-up begins at 6 a.m. For information, call Cat Barnette at 704-674-6001.

▪ The Carolina Traffic and Transportation Club golf outing to benefit the Lancaster Children’s Home will be Oct. 27 at the Lancaster Golf Club. Registration at 9:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10:30. Cost is $75, which includes greens fees, cart fees, beverages on the course, dinner and a chance for the cash drawing. ▪ Historic Rock Hill will be host its annual White Home After Dark tour 6-9 p.m. Oct. 24 at the White Home, 258 E. White St. The event includes a spooky, candlelit tour of the home as well as games, ghost stories and treats. Admission, $6, adults, $3, age 17 and younger, free for HRH members.

▪ Allison Creek Bluegrass will feature the nationally known bluegrass/gospel band “The King James Boys” 7 p.m. Thursday at Allison Creek Presbyterian Church on S.C. 274 at Allison Creek Road. Doors open at 6 p.m. with food service at 6:30.

▪ Mike Farris and the Roseland Rhythm Revue will perform 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Community Performance Center, 2429 E. Main St. Doors open at 7 p.m. Farris, a soul singer from Nashville was a 2015 Grammy Award winner. Advance tickets: $25 for Arts Council of York County members; $40 for the public and $45 at the door.

▪ Fort Mill Community Playhouse presents its fall dinner theater with “Interruptions,” a comedy written by Burton Bumgarner, Nov. 6, 7, 13 and 14. Hunger relief

▪ The Second Harvest Partners, sponsored by Providence Presbytery, will have a hunger relief site at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Jerusalem Baptist, 1003 Steele St., Fort Mill. The York County Library in Rock Hill will offer the following free programs in October:

Tabletop Gaming for Teens and Adults, 2:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday with tabletop games with ghosts, goblins and scary things including Castle Ravenloft, King of Tokyo and Elder Sign. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

▪ Make-A-Wish South Carolina is seeking volunteers to help make wishes come true for children across the state. Bilingual volunteers are especially needed.
