The 26th annual Winthrop Holiday Pottery Sale will be noon-6 p.m. Friday Dec. 4 in room G-10 in the Rutledge Building at Winthrop University.

Visitors will find many unique, hand-crafted creations from ceramics students and Winthrop faculty. Selections this year include beautifully glazed pitchers, coffee mugs with 3D faces peering out and an exquisite container featuring a bird perched on top.

Proceeds from every sale go toward purchasing new equipment, bringing in visiting artists and raising money for scholarships. For information, call 803-323-2323.

Special events

▪ Home Instead Senior Care is sponsoring Be a Santa to a Senior, a program the collects, wraps and delivers gifts to seniors in York, Chester and Lancaster counties. The business has partnered with the Catawba Area Agency on Aging and Golden Corral. A tree with seniors names and gift requests is on display at Golden Corral, Anderson Road, Rock Hill through Dec. 14. For information, go to beasantatoasenior.com

▪ Sister-to-Sister will celebrate Christmas with a Singing Christmas Tree performing “Lead Me Back to Bethlehem,” 4 p.m. Saturday at Rawlinson Road Middle School. ▪ A book signing with authors of “The Improbable Truth: The Paranormal Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” will be noon-1 p.m. Saturday at The BooKnack, 742 N. Anderson Road. ▪ York Parks and Recreation will host Breakfast with Santa, 8-10 a.m. Dec. 12 at the York Recreation Center. Breakfast includes all you can eat pancakes and bacon. ▪ The Richburg Christmas Tree Lighting will be 5 p.m. Sunday in the Richburg Town Park with carol singing and Santa.

Fundraisers

▪ Clover Optimist Club will host a barbecue, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday next to Killian’s Service Center, S.C. 55, Clover. Plates are $8 with barbecue, slaw, chips, bun and a cookie; sandwiches, $4, 5-pound buckets, $30; drinks, $1. A portion of the proceeds will go to Lee Killian’s medical fund.

▪ Eastside Baptist Church will have a fundraiser breakfast, 8-10:30 a.m. Saturday in the gym behind the the church, 318 N. Jones Ave, Rock Hill Proceeds will go to the youth group.

Entertainment

▪ With Strings Attached, a duo of Elda Franklin on viola and Mary Ann Helton on piano, will present “Music for the Season” at noon on Dec. 15 in the sanctuary of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Oakland Avenue, Rock Hill. Joining them will be guest artist, mezzo-soprano JL McDaniel-Milliken. Admission is free but donations of canned goods for local food pantries are encouraged.

▪ The York County Ballet presents “The Nutcracker,” 8 p.m. Dec. 17-19 and 3 p.m. Dec. 18-19 at Johnson Hall Theater at Winthrop University, Rock Hill. Tickets are $15 and available at the Winthrop Bookstore and yorkcountyballet.org.

Meetings

▪ The local TPA of America Post K will meet 6:30 p.m. Thursday at York Seafood, S.C. 5. The post sponsors children’s safety programs and a hearing-impaired scholarship program. For information, call Phyllis at 803-328-1654.

▪ The York County Marine Corp League’s local detachment, The Olde English Leathernecks, will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 732 W. Main St., Rock Hill. The league consists of Marine veterans, retired Marines, and associates. For information, call Don Hicks at 803-517-7253.

▪ The York County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs will meet 6 p.m. Dec. 10 at the administration building, 7900 Park Place Road in the East York Industrial Park, off S.C. 5.

York County Library

▪ The York County Library in Rock Hill will offer the following free events in December:

Friends of the Library Holiday Book Sale, 3:30-5 p.m. Sunday with gift-quality, gently used books, including holiday titles, children’s books, cookbooks and more, all at bargain prices.

Innovation Station: Holiday Gift-Making, 4:30-6 p.m. Monday for ages 11-17 to create unique gifts with all materials provided. Call 803-981-5830 to register.

▪ York County libraries will collect Food for Fines through Dec. 31 to encourage the return of overdue library materials while giving back to the community at the same time. Library users can pay off fines for overdue materials with nonperishable food and personal hygiene items. For each donated item, $1 will be credited to outstanding fines, but will not cover the cost of lost or damaged materials. For information, go to yclibrary.org.

Health

▪ Sisters United As One, an organization to unite, encourage and embrace all women, will host its inaugural hygiene drive, 11 a.m. Saturday at the ROC, East White Street, Rock Hill. Those facing homelessness and low-income families will be given hygiene items and a hot meal. There also will be blood drive.

Reunions

▪ The Emmett Scott High School class of 1967 will meet for its December birthday fellowship dinner at 5:30 p.m. Monday at The LongHorn restaurant, Rock Hill.

▪ The Rock Hill High class of 1959 will meet for lunch and fellowship 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Golden Corral, Anderson Road. Classmates, spouses and friends are invited.

▪ Former employees of US Plywood, Champion International and Georgia Pacific at the Catawba Plant will meet for lunch and fellowship 1 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Golden Corral, Anderson Road. All former employees, spouses and friends invited.

Support groups

▪ NAMI monthly support groups and education sessions will Tuesday Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, 421 Oakland Ave., Rock Hill. Support group meetings are at 6:15 p.m., connection support group in room 202 and family support group in room 203. The educational meeting is at at 7:30 p.m. in the basement dining area.
