Rock Hill Daddy/Daughter Dance tickets on sale Tuesday

Tickets for The Rock Hill Parks, Recreation, & Tourism Department’s annual Daddy/Daughter Dance will go on sale Tuesday. The event will be 7-9:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Hood Center at York Technical College with the theme “Under the Sea”.

The dance is for girls ages 4-12 and their dad or other special male adult. A drawing will be held to choose the Couple of the Evening. Tickets must be purchased in advance and only a limited number of tickets are available. Tickets will not be available at the door. The attire will be dressy casual.

Tickets are $30 per couple with $5 each additional girl. Tickets are available during business hours at Northside Recreation Center, Fewell Park Recreation Center, Emmett Scott Recreation Center, Boyd Hill Recreation Center and at the PRT office at City Hall, Room 390. Special events

▪ The Rock Hill Music Club will host “A Festival of Hymns” at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, 144 Caldwell St., Rock Hill. The Hymn Festival features the choirs of the Church of Our Saviour, Oakland Avenue Presbyterian, Doby’s Bridge Presbyterian with Donald Moe as narrator, Virginia Moe on organ, Timothy Moe on trombone and Richard Hart on trumpet. Fundraisers

▪ Rock Hill Area Shag Club party will be 8 p.m. Saturday at Celebrations at Ramada Inn, Cherry Road. Board meeting at 7 p.m. Wear a favorite team jersey. Hot dog dinner with all the trimmings. Members bring a dessert. Admission: $3, members; $5, guests.

▪ “Understanding Dementia and Alzheimer’s,” presented by Teepa Snow, a dementia care and education specialist, will be Jan. 22 at First Baptist Church, 481 Hood Center Road, Rock Hill. ▪ The following events will be offered at the York County Library, Black Street, Rock Hill:

Fiction Frenzy, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday for ages 9-11. Participate in group activities and hear about 5-star chapter books from Miss Amy and other kids. No registration required.

Tech Help Drop-In, 1-4 p.m. Friday for those who need help with laptops, tables or have questions about email, Internet safety, social media or software or which library products will work with an e-reader. Bring your own computer or device or library staff members will demonstrate using library-owned equipment on a first-come basis.

Recreation

▪ Fewell Park Recreation Center is offering a watercolor class for children ages 8-11. Maddie Horne will teach “My Rainbow” 3:45-5:45 Mondays Jan. 25-Feb. 29. Cost is $54. School enrollment

▪ York School District One’s Hunter Street Elementary School Montessori Program will have open enrollment orientation, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the cafeteria. The program offers a half-day program for children who will be 3 by Sept. 1 and a full day program for children who will be 4 by Sept.1. Documents needed for registration include state birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency (most recent copy of property taxes, power bill, water bill will all be accepted; a driver’s license will not be accepted) and a valid picture ID of the parent or legal guardian.

Volunteers

▪ The York County Council on Aging needs volunteers to help deliver meals to home-bound seniors in Rock Hill. For information, contact Nikki McIsaac at 803-328-0197, ext. 302.

▪ Hospice & Community Care will offer a volunteer training session for those interested in volunteering in the Hospice & Community Care Resale Shop in downtown Lancaster. Training will be 2-4:30 p.m. Jan. 26 in the community room at the Lancaster County Library. 313 S. White St. Volunteers help with receiving, sorting, and pricing donated items, as well as helping customers find great deals. Flexible volunteer hours and schedules are available. ▪ Volunteer training for the Cass Elias McCarter Guardian ad Litem Program begins Jan. 25-Feb. 27. Training involves three hours of online classes each week and a Saturday class on the case study.
