OWL Book Club Sunday at the Children’s Musuem
OWL Book Club will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Main Street Children’s Museum, 133 E. Main St., Rock Hill. The children’s book club will feature Julie R. Murphy, who will talk about her book, “What If We Were All Gray?”
During the OWL Book Club, children can talk about the stories and do book-themed activities involving movement with music and craft time in the upstairs classroom.
February’s read-ahead book for families is “My Many Colored Days” by Dr. Seuss.

Fundraisers
▪ “Be Irish for a Night,” the 22nd annual fundraiser for Pilgrims’ Inn, will be 6:30-9:30 p.m. March 12 at Saint Anne Parish Life Center, 1696 Bird St., Rock Hill. The event features a corned beef and cabbage dinner, homemade Irish corn bread and desserts, wine, beer, soft drinks, Irish dancers and music and live and silent auctions. ▪ The York Cougar Band’s annual Winter Fish Fry at York Middle School as been rescheduled for 3-8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.- 8 p.m. Sunday. Plates are $10, adults; $5, ages 5-10 and free age 4 and younger. Dine-in or take-out.
▪ Friends of the York County Library book sale will be Thursday-Saturday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2115 Celanese Road, Rock Hill. Thousands of books for all ages will be sold at $2 per inch. DVDs and audiobooks will also be available at bargain prices. Opening night for Friends members is 4-7 p.m. Thursday. Memberships will be available at the door for $15 for individuals and $25 for families. The sale is open to the public 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. School registration
York School District One will have 4-year-old pre-school registration and 5-year-old kindergarten registration 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Feb. 8-9 and 2:30-6:30 p.m. Feb. 10 for students who will be four or five years old on or before Sept. 1. Registration will be at Cotton Belt Elementary School, Harold C. Johnson Elementary School, Hickory Grove/Sharon Elementary School, Hunter Street Elementary School, and Jefferson Elementary School.
To register, parents must bring a copy of the child’s S.C. Immunization Form, state issued birth certificate, proof of residency (most recent property tax notice or utility bill) and valid picture id parent/legal guardian. if applying for full day 4k, bring current medicaid card, Food Stamp case number or W2 form/check stub/income tax return. A Social Security Card is optional.
Tax help
▪ AARP will have free federal and state income tax preparation Tuesday and Thursdays, Feb. 2-April 14 at the Fort Mill Library in Baxter Village. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. with the last client taken at 3:30 p.m. The service is primarily first come but a limited number of appointments are available. There is no limit on age or income. ▪ Taxaide will offer free tax preparation 12:30-3:30 p.m. Feb. 3-March 31 and April 13-14 in the adult education area at the Flexible Learning Center, 1234 Flint St. Ext., Rock Hill. Additional hours will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 9 and 23, March 8 and 22 and April 5 at the Charlotte Avenue YMCA, Rock Hill. Bring tax documents and last year’s returns.
▪ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance will offer free tax preparation, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through April 14 in the wellness center at Rock Hill City Hall. Saturday service will be offered Saturdays in February from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Rock Hill Galleria, Leroy Springs Recreation Complex in Fort Mill and the Clover library.
