The Arts Council of York County and Rock Hill School District Three present the annual Teachers’ Choice Youth Art Exhibition – featuring selected artwork by Rock Hill students from elementary, middle and high schools.

A free public reception will be 6 p.m. Thursday when awards will be presented for mixed media, painting, drawing and sculpture.

The exhibition will be on display in all three galleries at the Center for the Arts, 121 E. Main St., through March 13.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every second and fourth Saturday; and 2-4 p.m. every second and fourth Sunday. For information, call 803-328-2787.

Special events

▪ The Vietnam Veteran Memorial Fund in Memory program honors Vietnam vets who died later as a result of their service in Vietnam, but are not eligible for inscription on the memorial wall in Washington because of U.S. Department of Defense guidelines. Examples of causes of death that fit the criteria for inclusion include exposure to Agent Orange, PTSD/suicide, cancer, diabetes and heart attack. Application deadline is March 3. ▪ Live Well Clover will sponsor an eight-week, free Couch to 5K program beginning Monday to help residents get ready to participate in Live Well Clover’s second annual 5K run April 23. Space is limited. To register go to bit.ly/1SLJmlb or call 803-222-9495.

▪ “Using Texture in the Landscape” is the topic of First Friday in the Garden, 11 a.m. March 4 at the Glencairn Learning Center, 826 Edgemont Ave., Rock Hill. Clemson Extension agent Paul Thompson will speak. Free and open to the public.

Fundraisers

▪ A Relay for Life fundraiser will be held at Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in Rock Hill, 4-9 p.m. Monday. The restaurant will donate 10 percent of the proceeds to Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life/York East will be 2-10 p.m. May 14 at Dutchman Creek Middle School, Rock Hill.

▪ Charlotte Avenue YMCA annual Campaign Raffle runs through March 15 at the YMCA, 402 Charlotte Ave., Rock Hill. Prizes include a six-month YMCA membership, week at Camp Cherokee, $500 gift certificate to Thomas & Leitner Orthodontics, $50 Outback Steakhouse gift card, gift cards to other local businesses and more. ▪ South Pointe High School Repertory Theatre will present “The Wizard of Oz” 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the school, 801 Neely Road, Rock Hill.. Clubs

▪ Lake Wylie Shag Club offers shag dance lessons and line-dance lessons for $1 Tuesdays at the Fort Mill Moose Lodge. Line-dance lessons begin at 6 p.m. and shag dance lessons at 7:30 p.m. The dance floor opens for all dancers at 8 p.m. The event features a DJ and snack bar.

Seminar

▪ A free seminar on “Transitions Simplified” will be 1:30-3 p.m. March 8 at Carolina Gardens of Rock Hill, formerly Agape Senior Living, 1785 Lexington Common Drive. ▪ Deadline to apply for small grants through the Arts Council of York County is 5 p.m. March 1. The Small Grants Program provides support for small or pilot arts activities, artist professional development, new and developing programs or organizations, and special projects of high artistic quality that cannot support themselves. Organizations and individual artists may request up to $1,000 per grant and may receive up to two grants in a calendar year.
