▪ Discovery Day to help record the history of Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. will be 1-5 p.m. March 23 at Family Trust Federal Credit Union, 225 W. White St., Rock Hill.
Culture & Heritage Museums’ staff wants to document objects, photos, and other memorabilia in order to commemorate the history of the plant.
Residents who have old photos, news articles, memos, newsletters, advertisements, fabric samples, or objects that relate to the Bleachery, are invited to bring them by for CHM’s historian Michael Scoggins and archivist Nancy Sambets to review and document. For information call 803-684-3948 ext. 2
Special events
▪ The annual Charlotte Camellia Society Flower Show and Plant Sale will be 1-5 p.m. Saturday and 1:30-5 p.m. March 13 at the Historic White Home, 258 E. White St., Rock Hill. The event is free and open to the public. Visitors can see hundreds of blooms of the winners of the annual competition, buy camellia plants that are suitable for growing in our area, and register for a drawing to win a free camellia plant. ▪ The Ag+Art Tour of Lancaster County is accepting applications from artisans who want to participate. Artists are featured free at agricultural locations that have applied to be part of the 2016 self-guided farm tour. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. June 10 and 1-5 p.m. June 11. Lancaster County is one of nine counties that make up the SC Ag+Art Tour, the nation’s largest free farm tour. For information and applications go to agandarttour.com/artisans. York County Ag + Art Tour also is accepting applications. Artisans must be residents of York County. Traditional artists including potters, quilters, jewelers, painters and more, storytellers and musicians may apply to be considered. Fundraisers
▪ The third annual Mount Hebron Dreamkeepers Optimist Club Exhibition Basketball Game will be 4 p.m. Saturday at South Pointe High School. The Prime Time Players, a semi-pro team, will face a lineup of local players, including several former high-school stars. Proceeds will support club programs, including YES (Youth Empowerment Service) and other Optimist International initiatives for research of childhood cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and age 60 or older.
▪ A live narrated outdoor Easter scene will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday in the Food Lion parking lot on Springdale Road, Rock Hill. The event, sponsored by Oakdale and Park Ridge Baptist churches, depicts the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus. The scene repeats every 30 minutes. Free and open to the public.
▪ “Be Irish for a Night,” the 22nd annual fundraiser for Pilgrims’ Inn, will be 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday at Saint Anne Parish Life Center, 1696 Bird St., Rock Hill. The event features a corned beef and cabbage dinner, homemade Irish corn bread and desserts, wine, beer, soft drinks, Irish dancers and music, and live and silent auctions. ▪ AARP will have free federal and state income tax preparation Tuesday and Thursdays through April 14 at the Fort Mill Library in Baxter Village. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. with the last client taken at 3:30 p.m. The service is primarily first come but a limited number of appointments are available. There is no limit on age or income. ▪ Taxaide will offer free tax preparation 12:30-3:30 p.m. through March 31 and April 13-14 in the adult education area at the Flexible Learning Center, 1234 Flint St. Ext., Rock Hill. ▪ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance will offer free tax preparation, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through April 14 in the wellness center at Rock Hill City Hall. Saturday service will be offered Saturdays in February from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Rock Hill Galleria, Leroy Springs Recreation Complex in Fort Mill and the Clover library.
