▪ The Shepherd’s Center of Rock Hill spring classes of Adventures in Learning begins Monday, meeting each Monday through May 9. Cost is $20. The Shepherd’s Center meets downstairs at Oakland Baptist Church, at 1067 Oakland Ave., in Rock Hill.
The first classes are 10-11a.m, followed by a break with session from 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Classes include a new series on Law and Order, games, bridge and creative writing, exercise, gardening and good food and and a tour of Bush and Vine in York.

Special events
▪ The Rock Hill Music Club annual concert and reception will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Byrnes Auditorium at Winthrop University. Featured musicians will be York residents Hazel Baile Somerville and Murray Somerville, organ and the Horn Society of the Carolinas, which include French horn musician from Rock Hill, Fort Mill and Charlotte. The music club presents the free concert each year as a gift to the community. The club is awarding 17 music scholarships to band, choral and string musicians from three high schools, six Winthrop music majors, a French Horn Society student and a South Carolina Summer Camp scholarship.
▪ Count Me In to Do the Right Thing will host free bingo games for area youth and senior citizens, 11 a.m.-noon April 9 at the Richburg Community Library, 3771 Lancaster Highway. ▪ North Central Family Medical Center will hold a voter registration drive 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 9 at 1131 Saluda St., Rock Hill.
▪ Poet Metta-Sáma Melvin will read her works and speak to students about creative writing at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Tuttle Dining Room at Winthrop University. Melvin is an assistant professor and the director of creative writing at Salem College and has written three books, “Nocturne Trio,” “South of Here,” and her most recent chapbook, “The Year We Turned Dragon.” The visit is part of the Creative Writers Reading Series, hosted by the Winthrop University Department of English. Free and open to the public.
Fundraisers
▪ The Hickory Grove Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor its annual hash and barbecue sale and antique tractor show, 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Hickory Grove Park, Wylie Avenue. In addition there will be craft, bake and yard sales. Other food includes sausage biscuits, gravy biscuits, hot dogs and hamburgers. Hash and barbecue can be purchased by the pint and quart. ▪ The Men of Covenant Presbyterian Church will have a barbecue sale, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the church at the corner of Mount Gallant and Celanese roads. Barbecue by the pound, $10; plates with beans, slaw and bread, $8 and sandwiches, $4.50. Proceeds to church projects.
▪ Ozzie’s 19th Birthday Bash will be 4-10 p.m. April 16 at VFW Post 2889 in Rock Hill benefitting animal rescue and assistance in York County by Ozzie to the Rescue. Tickets are $15. single; $25 double and $5 age 10 and younger. There will be lasagna or spaghetti dinner and entertainment by Elvis impersonator, Matthew Spalding, beginning at 7 p.m. Cash bar available. For information call 803-412-4478.
▪ The 2016 Festival Golf Classic will be April 19 at Pinetuck Golf Club with lunch and 12:45 shotgun start. Entry fee is $240 per team or $60 per player and includes a mulligan, beverages and lunch. Meetings
▪ Habitat for Humanity of York County will hold a “Building on Faith” informational meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, 426 Oakland Ave., Habitat is teaming with interested faith groups, businesses, civic groups and individuals to construct four new homes and complete 30 home repair projects during 2016.
