Sarah Tucker, a Rock Hill High School junior and Catawba Teen Center member, will compete for the S.C. Youth of the Year title from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

Tucker is expected to be honored Thursday as the Boys & Girls Clubs of York County’s 2016 Youth of the Year.

The award for Tucker’s leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to a healthy lifestyle is to be presented at the City Club of Rock Hill during a meeting of the Rock Hill Kiwanis Club.

Tucker has been attending the clubs’ Catawba Teen Center since its inception. She is the first Youth of the Year winner and the first S.C. Native American club member to receive the clubs’ top honor.

The S.C. Youth of the Year title comes with a $5,000 college scholarship from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

“During her time at the club,” Catawba Chief Bill Harris said, “Sarah has created a plan for her future and enhanced her life skills, while also building character and integrity.”

If Sarah wins at the state competition, she will compete for Southeast Region Youth of the Year and a $10,000 scholarship, renewable for four years.

Five regional winners will advance to Washington, D.C., in September, to compete for the National Youth of the Year and an additional four-year renewable scholarship of $25,000 and will have the chance to meet with the president of the United States.
