Students at Clover’s Larne Elementary School celebrated black history with music, poetry, dance and more during a performance Friday at the school.

Third-graders performed songs, including “Funga Alafia,” a traditional African song of welcome, to open the performance.

In a poetry cafe, individual students and groups recited 10 poems that they had studied by Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou and Gwendolyn Brooks.

Other students gave video recorded book reports on some of the books they had studied, and the school’s Tap Puppies, a student tap dancing group, performed. Students also recited Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
