Clover Optimists honor essay winners

The Clover Optimist Club recently hosted an awards dinner for Clover High School winners of the club’s essay contest.

The winners are from Josie Jamison’s class. They are, first, Sydney Zazzaro; second, Mary Harriet Hall; and third, Valerie Glankler. Pictured are, from left, Jamison, Hall, Zazzaro and Glankler. First-place winner from Oakridge Middle school is Christina Jones.

Both first-place winner essays have been sent on to the district-level competition. Winners at the district level will win a $2,500 scholarship. The essay scholarship is one of two Optimist programs through which students can earn a $2,500 scholarship.

The other is the oratorical contest, which will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 21. There is still time to enter that competition. For more information on the oratorical event, contact Skinnell at 803-684-2008 or sknnll@aol.com.
