Mulvaney to speak March 27 in Lake Wylie

U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC Fifth District) will speak March 27 at the Clover-Lake Wylie Republican Women’s monthly luncheon meeting at River Hills Country Club.

He will talk about the U.S. immigration system and his ideas how to fix it.

An 11:30 a.m. social is followed by lunch and speaker at noon. A question-and-answer session will follow.

The meeting is open to the public, both men and women. Lunch costs $20. To reserve a seat with or without lunch (please specify), call 803-831-1814 by March 24.

Club annual membership dues cost $25. Dues for associate members (men) are $10.

Bethany group to meet March 24

The Bethany Community Association will meet at 7 p.m. March 24 at Oakdale Presbyterian Church on S.C. 55.

This will be an organizational meeting to get officers and committees in place. The duties of each committee will briefly be discussed.

4-H Dairy Goat Club forming

York 4-H Youth Development apart of Clemson Extension Service in York County is starting a new club for youth interested in learning about dairy goats.

Club members will gain knowledge about the raising and showing of dairy goats. Dairy goat ownership is not required.

Club meetings will be held the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. beginning April 7 at the Bethesda Volunteer Fire Station No. 1, 1705 S.C. 324, Rock Hill.

Youth must register as a 4-H’er and pay membership dues before joining the club. For information, call 803-684-9919.

Clover club plans card party

The Clover Woman’s Club will hold a card party 2-5 p.m. March 20 at Clover School District Office, 604 Bethel St.

Tickets will be sold by members and reservations. Cost is $10 with money going to the scholarship fund. Refreshments will be served.

Group to meet at Carroll School

The York County Genealogical & Historical Society will meet at 3 p.m. March 25 at Carroll School, 4789 Mobley Store Road, Rock Hill.

The Carroll School is one of many Rosenwald Schools built for African-American students across the rural South in the early 20th century. It was used from 1929-1954. In recent years, it has been preserved by Rock Hill School District 3. Queenie Hall will talk about the Rosenwald School program and the life of the Carroll School.

Gladys Robinson will talk about the efforts to preserve the Liberty Hill Rosenwald School near Catawba.

Swine show, sale set for March 28

The 4-H/FFA Swine Project Show and Sale will be March 28 at the Chester Livestock Exchange, 2531 Lancaster Highway.

4-H and FFA members will show the hogs they’ve raised three months. Awards will be presented for Grand and Reserve Champions and Average Daily Gain winners.

The show will begin at 10 a.m. and the sale should begin at noon.

This is a United Way of York County sponsored project. The Bank of York sponsors the Grand and Reserve Champion Prizes, and the York County Farm Bureau awards special prizes to participants.

Walking group meeting in Clover

The Clover Daybreak Walkers meet at 6:30 a.m. each Tuesday and Saturday in the Blue Eagle Academy parking lot on Knox Street.

This walking club, which will meet weather permitting, is for beginners, but everyone is welcome to come exercise and meet new people.

Registration is not necessary. Just show up with your walking shoes, comfortable clothing, water and sun protection. A walk leader will plan and lead each day’s walk.

The Daybreak Walkers is a project of Live Well Clover, the town’s active living committee, organized to grow a healthy and active Clover community one step at a time.

Lions selling directory ads

River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club is selling ad space in the phone directory that reaches more than 3,000 Lake Wylie area residents and businesses. Proceeds go to charities, including River Hills/Lake Wylie EMS.

The directory is available online and includes phone numbers for government services and officials. It also lists charities, churches, hospitals, utilities, schools, newspapers, River Hills social and services organizations, and children’s activities.

One copy is delivered to all River Hills residents and to advertisers each year.

Fun run, walk planned for Relay for Life

The second annual Hippity Hoppity Hope 5K fun run and walk will be Saturday, April 11 at First Baptist Church, 102 S. Congress St., York.

The event is a benefit for the church’s Relay for Life team, which is raising money for the annual American Cancer Society benefit.

A children’s race will begin at 7:50 a.m. and the 5K race will be at 8 a.m. Cost is $20 for the 5K only. Proceeds benefit the cancer society.
