Church news: Clover Palm Sunday service

Clover’s First UMC Easter slate

First United Methodist Church, Bethel Street, Clover, will have a community Palm Sunday service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 29 with the Rev. Douglass Key of Clover First Presbyterian preaching.

An Easter egg hunt will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon April 4 with candy, prizes, crafts, snacks, music, pictures with the Easter Bunny and a telling of the Easter story.

Kings Mountain Chapel UMC eats

Kings Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church will host a barbecue from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. March 28 at the church, 1130 Philbeck Road in York.

Plates are $8; dine in or takeout.

Smyrna church plans benefit

Canaan United Methodist Church, Canaan Church Road, Smyrna, will host a benefit ride for Tina Falls, a heart-transplant candidate, at 9 a.m. March 28.

The ride will begin at the church. Registration is $20 for one rider and $25 for two, which includes a T-shirt.

Kickstands are up at 10 a.m. for a three-and-half-hour ride. For information, call Tony at 803-322-8972 or email LLWM60@yahoo.com. Lunch is $5. There are three top prizes and door prizes.

Tirzah ARP plans retreat, egg hunt

Tirzah ARP Church, Mount Gallant Road, York, will have a middle-school retreat March 27-29 at Bonclarken, N.C. An Easter egg hunt for ages 2-4 will be March 29.

Allison Creek plans events

Allison Creek Presbyterian Church, S.C. 274, York, will have a special Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. April 2 to dedicate the historical maker detailing the African-American cemetery on the church grounds.

The congregations of New Home and Liberty Hill AME Zion and Union Baptist churches will participate.

Descendants of those buried in the cemetery began these three congregations.

An offering of Bibles, hymnals and money will be collected to send to the Christ Missionary Church in Duala, Liberia. Some descendants from the Allison Creek cemetery are members of this congregation in Liberia.

Program on Messiah on April 1

The Journey at Lake Wylie presents Messiah in the Passover at 7 p.m. April 1.

Sam Nadler is a Jewish believer in Yeshua, who has been in Jewish ministry for almost 40 years. He is founder and president of Word of Messiah Ministries.

Adults needed for teen outreach

Young Life of York County is at work with teens in the community, providing leaders to help them make wise decisions.

Young Life is a Christian ministry committed to making an impact on kids’ lives and giving them hope for tomorrow. Founded in 1941, Young Life leaders build positive relationships with young people to model and communicate the truth about Jesus Christ. Young Life reaches suburban, urban and multicultural kids, as well as kids with disabilities and teenage mothers.

Affirmation of York County is a new support group for people in faith communities who seek support and understanding for themselves and others in working through the issues confronted by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, their families and their friends.

Reserve a seat for family night

River Hills Community Church, 104 Hamilton’s Ferry Road, holds Wednesday Family Night through May.

Adult studies begin at 5:15 p.m., followed by dinner in the gym at 6:15 p.m. with children and adult classes starting at 7 p.m. Dinner costs $6 for adults and $3 for children.

Family night is open to the community and the first dinner is free.

New Life Purpose Bible study, therapy

New Life Purpose Christian Ministries offers Community Conventional Bible Studies at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Steele Creek.

The Rev. Ricou L. Williams of New Life Purpose said the aim is to provide participants with more than the average traditional Bible lesson by discussing methods used to evaluate and develop a concept of Biblical studies from a Theological perspective.

New Life Purpose also is holding Take 2 Enhancement sessions to help people dealing with substance abuse or mental health instabilities in therapeutic groups to enhance recovery. These sessions will cater to family members with loved ones suffering from these conditions and individuals considering careers working with substance abuse and mental health issues. North Carolina Mental Health Consumers and National Alliance for Mental Illness will help facilitate these sessions.

The health organizations are also offering certifications for licensure for peer support specialists and social work services.
