Cougar baseball falls to Rock Hill

The York Comprehensive High School baseball team lost 5-4 to Rock Hill Friday night.

With the Cougars trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Will Prince delivered an RBI single, scoring Patch Edwards and slicing Rock Hill’s lead to 4-3.

After the Bearcats scored a run in the top of the seventh, the Cougars pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to tie the game, leaving the bases loaded.

With the loss, the Cougars are in a scramble with other teams for the region and playoffs.

“Our goal coming into this year was to make the playoffs,” said head coach Eddie Tisdale. “We’ve been out of the playoffs for a few years now. We’ve got the talent to do that.”

Tisdale added: “We dropped a tough one to Northwestern. We dropped another tough one tonight. It’s put us back in the pack now. You don’t want to have other teams control your destiny. We had an opportunity to control our own destiny, and we just couldn’t get the job done.”

Tisdale noted that Rock Hill is playing well at this stage of the season and that Nation Ford is in a great spot, too.

“It’s all about who can win the big games,” he said.

Though he was disappointed with recent losses in the region, Tisdale said the Cougars need to focus.

“There are some things we have to correct and there are things we have to do better,” he said. “Our season is far from over and our kids know that.”

The Cougars play at Fort Mill at 4:30 p.m. Friday, with the JV teams competing, followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m.
