YCHS JV girls’ soccer defeats Rock Hill

The YCHS JV girls’ soccer team defeated visiting Rock Hill 3-2.

The Cougars, led by goals by Taylor Ries, led first by 1-0 then 2-1 before the Rock Hill squad tied the score at two.

A shootout followed regulation time. The team’s record is 4-5.

York varsity girls’ soccer blanks Chester

The YCHS girls’ varsity soccer team defeated the Lady Cyclones 2-0 and avenge an earlier loss.

Late in the first half, Mo Setzer received a pass from Shelby Ashe across the face of the goal and put it in the back of the net.

The Lady Cyclones had a couple good runs on goal until the defense with Jade Consalvi, Najha Feemster, Anna Littlejohn and Gabby Richardson shut those runs down.

The second Cougar goal came when Victoria “Scratch” Ivey pressured the Cyclone ball carrier, causing her to misplay the ball.

When Scratch sent the ball on frame, it deflected off the Cyclone keeper and Scratch was there to capitalize with her first goal of the season.

Rock Hill defeats York boys’ tennis team

Rock Hill defeated the YCHS boys’ tennis team 6-0.

Scores: No.1 singles Matthew Goforth, (1-6) (3-6); No. 2 singles Noah Arnold, (0-6) (0-6); No. 3 singles Tyler Doan, (0-6) (0-6); No. 4 singles Jackson Montgomery, (0-6) (1-6); No. 5 singles Clint Black, (0-6) (1-6); No. 2 doubles, (forfeit).

Cougar golfers continue busy slate

The Cougar golfers had three golf matches in four days. The Nation Ford Falcons visited York at the Spring Lake Country Club, with York prevailing 168 to 176.

Leading the Cougars was Tucker Laney’s 41, followed 42s from Chandler Sain and Damon Heath and Chayce Blackwell’s 43. Also playing for the Cougars were Landon Joye (46) and Austin Hall (47).

Cougar golf hit the road to the Rock Hill Country Club to do battle with host Rock Hill High and Northwestern.

The host Bearcats outlasted the Cougars and Trojans 170-173-173. York scoring was comprised of a trio of 43s by Hall, Laney and Joye, with Sain at 44. Also playing for the Cougars were Blackwell (45) and Heath (50).

The Cougar golfers closed out the week at Northwestern and the Waterford Golf Club, with Nation Ford in a three-way match. Northwestern’s 158 score beat out York’s 173 and Nation Ford’s 177.

York was led by 41s from Laney and Heath, Joye’s 44 and Tyler Ellis’ 47. Sain and Blackwell carded 48s.

The Cougar golfers head into the last two weeks of the regular season with a record of 3-8-2 with away matches at Clover and Nation Ford, and the Fleischer Golf Tournament at Rock Hill Country Club leading up to the April 30 region tournament at Nation Ford’s Springfield Golf Club.

YCHS boys’ track defeats Fort Mill

The YCHS boys’ track team defeated Fort Mill 72-69.

Top performers: Kryon Schrouder, first in triple jump, second in high jump and long jump; Ben Watkins, first, pole vault; Ke’Trael Lytle, first, long jump; Ryan Ennis, first, shot and discus; Kamian McClain, first, 110 hurdles and 400 hurdles; Jamar Griffin, first, 100 and 200; Colt Parker, third, 400; Tyler Jackson, third, 800; Parker Mumaw, third, 3200; Shaq Harris, second, 200, third 100; Dee Pendergrass, second, 100.

The 4-by-100 relay team of Griffin, Pendergrass, Harris, and Omari Mitchell finished first.

Lady Cougars fall to Fort Mill track

The Lady Cougars lost a track meet to Fort Mill 97-44.

Contributing were Yana Fuller, La’myia Love, Ry’kieria McCullough and Amiyah Starnes winning the 4-by-100 relay and Jenna Dasilva, Neesha Brown, and Alasia Smith in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints.

Kinleigh Wilkerson finished first in shot put and discus. First-time points by Marissa Rodenhauser, second in the long jump, and Itzel Castro, third in the 800 meter run, contributed to the success.

Leah Fuda took second in the pole vault and Gracen Ramsey and Abby Day scored points in the 100-meter hurdles.

Blue Eagle tennis team setting the pace in region

The Blue Eagle tennis team overmatched a young Cougar squad. The Eagles lost two games out of 74 and continued their streak of beating York for nine years.

Justin White, Thomas Summers, Patrick Smith, Rob Long and Garrett Smith won singles matches and Holden McGill and Sean Elder won two doubles contests.

Against Nation Ford, Clover’s No. 1 singles player, White took control and the No. 2 doubles team of McGill and Elder easily won their first set.

But the Falcons held the edge going up a set at No.5 singles and posting leads in three of the four singles matches.

The Blue Eagle netters began to turn their singles matches around, led by seniors Patrick Smith, Long and Summers.

Senior Garrett Smith, after losing his first set, pushed ahead in the second and the Eagles soared to their biggest victory of the season, finishing off the Falcons with a 6-0 victory.

The CHS team is 8-0 overall and 6-0 in region play, sitting alone in first place.

Clover golfers lose to South Pointe

The Clover High School boys’ golf team fell to the South Pointe Stallions 153-162.

Individual Clover scoring included Andrew White at 37, Dalton Davis 40, Austin Walker 40 and Nate Boepple 45. The Blue Eagles are 6-3 for the season.
