School notes: York FFA students compete
York students compete in tool event
The York Comprehensive High School FFA, or Future Farmers of America, Tool ID Team traveled to Saluda High School last month to compete in the Mid-State Region Tool ID Career Development Event.
Students had to correctly identify 40 tools that were randomly selected from a list of 187 tools, and match 20 additional tools with their correct usage. This contest is only open to ninth- and 10th-grade first-year FFA members.
The team of CJ Grant, Justin Good, Hunter Grayson and Hart Teska tied for first place team at the contest. After a tie breaker scenario, the York team ended up in second place out of 16 teams, qualifying to compete at the State Tool ID CDE at Lexington-Richland 5’s Center for Advanced Technical Studies in Chapin.
Team members Grant, Good and Grayson all recorded perfect scores at the contest, tying them with six other students for high score individuals. Teska scored a 94 out of 100.
York placed sixth at the state event on March 24, finishing eight points behind the winning team from Wagner-Salley High School. Good posted another perfect score of 100 points, while Grant, Grayson, and Teska each scored a 96 out of 100.
