School notes: ‘Hairspray’ at YCHS

YCHS thespians to present ‘Hairspray’

The York Comprehensive High School Thespian Society will present the Broadway musical “Hairspray” on Saturday and Sunday in the school auditorium.

Shows are 2 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance at the school or at the door. Seating is limited.

Crowders Creek carnival April 24

Crowders Creek Elementary School’s annual spring carnival will be 5-8 p.m. April 24 at 5515 Charlotte Highway. An outdoor screening of “Big Hero 6” or “Annie” will show after.

There also will be games, food, a silent auction and inflatables.

Wristbands are $10 in advance or $12 at the door for all school-age children.

Business sponsorships are available for $35 to be a promotional vendor or $50 as a sales vendor. Details: Crowderscreekpta@gmail.com.

York teacher gets ‘Seussical’ grant

Donna Fields, a music teacher for York’s Hunter Street and Jefferson elementary schools, recently was recognized for submitting a Donors Choose grant.

Fields will use the grant money to buy materials to build props and staging materials for the mini-musical “Seussical Jr.”

The musical already was performed by fourth-grade students at Jefferson Elementary School and will be performed by Hunter Street Elementary students in May.

York Middle to host flea market May 2

York Middle School will host a flea market 7 a.m.-1 p.m. May 2.

Vendors are needed. Cost is $10 for three parking spaces. Details: Contact the school, 803-684-5008.

Clover High band plans fish fry

The Clover High School Band will have a fish fry from 3-8 p.m. May 2 and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 3 in the school cafeteria, 1625 S.C. 55 East.

Tickets are $9, available at the door. The meal includes fried fish, french fries, hush puppies and cole slaw. Water or tea will be provided. Free refills on food and drink will be available for eat-in guests. Eat-in or carry-out will be available.

Choraliers plan spring show

Members of the Clover High School Choraliers will present their spring show, “The Music Man,” at 8 p.m. April 30 and May 2 and 3 p.m. May 3.

Tickets are $7 each.

The box office in the lobby of the Clover School District Auditorium is open from 2-6 p.m. April 23 and 24 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 25, as well as two hours before each show.

There usually is a long line at the box office, but tickets can be obtained in advance for those who join the CHS choral Booster Club.
