Agape to host dog show

Agape Senior will host its third anniversary celebration and annual dog show from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11 at Agape, 1020 N. Congress St., York.

Dog show registration will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m., and shot records are required.

Those who don’t have a dog are welcome to attend. Dog rescue groups from all over York County will attend to answer adoption questions.

Pelican’s Shaved Ice will pass out snow cones for both two-legged and four-legged guests. There will be a drawing for a chance to win two tickets to the Lady Antebellum concert.

July 7 deadline for Master Gardener class

The application deadline for Master Gardener training for York, Chester and Lancaster counties is July 7.

Classes are held 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, Aug. 4 to Nov. 10, at the York County Clemson Extension office, 120 N. Congress St.

Shooting clinic planned

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources and Rocky Creek Sporting Clays will host a Wing Shooting Clinic for youth, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 16 in York County.

Participants will learn how to safely handle and shoot a shotgun. The clinic will introduce the basic skills needed for a bird hunt. The event is free. Lunch will be provided. Parents and guardians can stay during the clinic.

Historical society to meet in Rock Hill

York County Genealogical & Historical Society will meet at 3 p.m. July 12 at The White Home, corner of East White Street and Elizabeth Lane in Rock Hill.

The White Home is a farmhouse in downtown Rock Hill that predates the town’s founding. Five generations of the White family lived there, beginning in 1839. In recent years, it has been acquired and restored by Historic Rock Hill, a nonprofit preservation organization.

The normal admission fee will not be charged for this meeting.

Animal shelter needs volunteers

The nonprofit Friends of the York County Animal Shelter needs volunteers to help bathe, groom, exercise, socialize, train and provide adoption information for the animals, as well as assist in follow-ups, publicity, marketing and fulfilling other jobs at the shelter.

Time and mileage may be tax-deductible. Volunteers must be 18 or older; orientation and training are required. For information, call 803-818-6485 or go to the shelter at 713 Justice Boulevard, York.

4-H compiling alumni directory

Lions offer veterans program

The River Hills/ Lake Wylie Lions Club will offer a new program, “Involve a U.S. Veteran,” which waives the club’s traditional $40 fee for retired or honorably discharged personnel from the U.S. military.

4-H offering beekeeping camp

4-H Youth Development, a part of Clemson Extension Service in York County, will host a beekeeping camp 10 a.m.-1 p.m. July 28-29 for ages 5 to 19 at the York Extension Office 120 N. Congress St.

Campers will learn the basics of beekeeping, bee’s jobs in the colony including how pollination takes place, the parts of the hive, the equipment beekeepers use, and how honey is extracted.

PATH needs drivers to pick up food

PATH, or People Attempting to Help in York, a basic needs and food assistance agency, needs new volunteer drivers.

The agency needs teams of two people to drive to the Second Harvest food bank in Charlotte one Friday a month to shop for groceries for the food pantry.
