Clover teen, 15, accused of throwing fireworks at home, 2 police officers
A 15-year-old Clover youth was arrested late Sunday and accused of throwing fireworks at the window of a home and at two officers who responded to a police call.
A Mobley Street resident called police around 11:20 p.m. Sunday and reported that a shirtless juvenile wearing dark pants had approached his home and threw a firework at one of the windows, causing it to break, according to a Clover police report.
The resident told police that the suspect had walked into a field beside a nearby home on Zion Church Road and was still waiting there.
When two officers responded and approached the suspect, they saw him appear to light a fuse, the report said. Then “he threw something at us that appeared to have a fuse burning,” according to a Clover police report.
The device “caused a large explosion,” and the two officers began to run after the suspect, the report said. Officers caught the suspect, who was carrying a mortar shell firework, a Black and Mild cigar and a cell phone, the report said.
The resident identified the suspect as the person who had earlier shot a firework at his home and caused the window to break. The teen was one of three people who “sneaked into his front yard” before the firework was shot, the report said.
The Enquirer-Herald does not publish the names of juveniles who are arrested.
The teen was charged with use of a destructive device, curfew violation, property damage and discharging fireworks in the city limits, and was booked at Moss Justice Center.
