York offering gymnastics, tennis lessons
The York Recreation Department is registering for fall gymnastics and tennis.
Gymnastics registration begins on Thursday, Aug. 6. Thursday classes are:
▪ Tumbling, ages 4-7, 5-5:45 p.m. The cost is $30 per month
▪ Basic gymnastics, ages 8-13, 6-7 p.m. The cost is $35 per month.
The department will offer six weeks of tennis lessons, Aug. 10 until Sept. 14. Lessons will be 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays at the York Middle School upper tennis courts. Lessons are for boys and girls ages 7-15 for beginner and intermediate levels of play.
Instruction will be provided by Phil Davis.
The cost is $30 per participant for the six weeks. Registration is at the York Recreation Center on White Rose Lane from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 8 a.. to 5 p.m. Fridays.
The deadline to register is Friday, Aug. 7.

York Middle School football begins preseason practice Friday
The York Middle School seventh and eighth grade football teams begin preseason practice from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday.
“Any seventh or eighth grade student at York Middle School interested in playing football in the 2015 season should attend practice,” said Jerry Kemp, athletic director and eighth grade head football coach.
“You must have a South Carolina High School League physical completed after April 1, 2015, and turned in prior to being able to participate,” he said Kemp. “Report to the middle school at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 31, for practice.
The seventh grade Cougars will scrimmage at Banks Trail at 5 p.m. Aug. 26 and will be pitted against Castle Heights at 5 p.m. Sept. 2 the York Middle School Jamboree.
The rest of the seventh grade football schedule is: 5 p.m. Sept. 9 at Oakridge Middle; 5:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at Clover Middle; 5:30 p.m. Sept. 23 Dutchman Creek, home; 5 p.m. Sept. 30, at Castle Heights; 5:30 p.m. Oct. 7, Saluda Trail, home; 5:30 p.m. Oct. 14, Sullivan, home; 5 p.m. Oct. 21, at Rawlinson Road; 5:30 p.m. Oct. 28, playoff, TBA, home.
The eighth grade Cougar middle school football team will scrimmage Gold Hill 4:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at home and Castle Heights 5:25 p.m. Sept. 2 in the York Middle School Jamboree.

YCHS fall sports teams open official practice Friday
The York Comprehensive High School fall sports teams’ first official practice date for the 2015 season is Friday.
The Cougar football team opens preseason practice at 6 p.m. Friday at the YCHS football stadium. The Cougars will practice at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Blue Eagles’ Midnight Madness planned
The Clover High School football team gets an early start with Midnight Madness at 12:01 a.m. Friday at the lighted on campus practice field.
Blue Eagle head coach Chad Smith said Midnight Madness creates a lot of excitement in Blue Eagle Country. “We have a large turnout as far as fan support,” he said. “People know about it and they’ve been doing it for awhile”
Smith embraces Midnight Madness each year. “For a practice, it’s fantastic,” he said. “It’s kind of like a game atmosphere for our kids.”
YCHS football cookout Thursday
The York Comprehensive High School football cookout for players and parents will be at 6 p.m. Thursday in the school cafeteria.
Head football coach Bobby Carroll, who will communicate with parents, expects a large turnout.
Blue Eagle football season ticket renewals, upgrades available
The deadline for Clover High School season ticket renewals and updates is July 31.
Prices reflect six home games. Parking passes are available in club membership packages only.
Club ticket orders include:
▪ Eagle Club membership, $102. Includes two reserved season tickets, $72; one reserved parking pass, $30.
▪ Gray Eagle Club: $174. Includes four reserved season tickets, $144; one reserved parking pass, $30; and program listing
▪ Blue Eagle Club: $246. Includes six reserved season tickets, $216; two reserved parking passes, $30 (one at no charge), program listing, diagram on back.
All membership packages include admission to JV and ninth grade football games. Optional tickets include:
▪ Reserved seat tickets, six home games, varsity only, $36.
▪ Employee/staff reserved seat ticket upgrade, $10 (one per employee).
▪ Senior citizen’s upgraded pass, $10 each. To upgrade, you must have a current Clover School District senior citizen’s pass. You may include a copy of your pass with ticket form or preset in person to Mary Gattis at Clover High School.

Reserved season football tickets for sale at YCHS
York Comprehensive High School football season tickets are $40 for five home games at the YCHS stadium. Parking passes are $10.
Student passes are $50, which include all 2015-16 sports events.
Memberships to the YCHS Athletic Booster Club are $10 for individual memberships and $15 for families. York Touchdown Club memberships are $50.

York begins early registration for sports
The York Parks and Recreation Department will hold early registration for flag football, youth football and cheerleading until July 31.
Ages are 5 to 7 for flag football and 7 to 12 for youth football and youth cheerleading. Registration fee is $25 for flag football and $30 for youth football and cheerleading during early registration.
A birth certificate must be on file with the recreation department for a child to participate. Regular registration is open Aug. 3-26 and prices go up $5.
Late registration will be Aug. 23 and 25 with an additional $10 fee. Families may register at the Recreation Center, 21 White Rose Lane, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
