Blue Eagle fans get preview Friday against Hunter Huss
The Blue Eagles will host Hunter Huss Friday at 7:30 p.m. at newly-refurbished Memorial Stadium.
“We’re going game simulation against Huss,” head coach Chad Smith said.
Smith said the coaches will intermingle starters and others for the game.
“We’ll probably play 40 kids at least a half and then go from there,” he said. “It’ll be our first time doing game stuff the whole time.”
Smith was pleased with the Blue Eagles’ performance level in scrimmages against Broome Thursday, Aug. 6 and Chapman on Monday. Both scrimmages were held at Memorial Stadium.
“We fared extremely well against Broome,” he said. “Our first-team defense forced four turnovers. The first-team offense was in there 40 plays. I think we rushed for 240 yards with no turnovers.”
Added Smith: “The kids performed well against a very physical ball club. I was very pleased. We’re not at mid-season form but I think our kids are learning how we want them to play. I’m very excited about the way they competed.”
Smith was all smiles following Monday’s scrimmage against visiting Chapman. “We got what we wanted out of the scrimmage,” said Smith.
“We ran 76 offensive plays totaling 714 yards,” he said. “The offense had 613 yards rushing and 101 yards passing.
