Coach lauds Lady Cougar tennis team
York Comprehensive High School girls’ tennis team head coach Rusty Graham has been pleased with the team’s progress this season.
The Lady Cougars have beaten Chester twice, won a tie-breaker at Gaffney and competed favorably in other region matches.
“As long as I’ve been coaching these girls, this is definitely the best team that I’ve had,” said Graham. “I think it’s for two reasons. Four or five of our girls have been playing four to six years and they’re getting better.
Graham said another reason is foreign exchange student Andjela Todorovic “coming into the program and playing really well.”
Graham said the YCHS girls continue to gain a more competitive edge.
“We’ve lost more than we’ve won but we’re playing the matches closer than we ever have,” he said. “We lost to Northwestern in a really close match. We play them again and I’m looking to possibly beat them.”
Added Graham: “My point is the more they are together with everybody pitching in, we will continue to have a pretty strong team.
