PMC plans to open York imaging center in 2016

Piedmont Medical Center has received approval to open a $1.4 million imaging center in York, offering diagnostic services not previously available in western York County, hospital officials said.

The freestanding center at 1795 Devinney Road, York, the former location of Piedmont Internal Medicine and Family Practice at York, is expected to open in the first quarter of 2016, said Christina Oh, PMC’s chief operating officer.

The center will offer X-rays, CT scans, mammography and ultrasound services and bone density testing, she said, and will be open Monday to Friday.

The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control recently awarded PMC a Certificate of Need for the center, saying it will serve people “who lack convenient access to outpatient medical services such as imaging.”

Oh said hospital leaders had been talking with physicians who have been practicing in York for a long time about some of the area’s greatest health care needs.

“Across the board, they were saying that they really need imaging services so their patients don’t have to drive to Rock Hill or other locations,” Oh said.

“They felt like with patients having to go further away, they would have to take more time off work and it delayed the overall diagnosis of things they needed to get done,” she said.

Oh said the hospital is in the process of renovating the Devinney Road office. The $1.4 million cost will cover renovations and equipment, she said.

Oh said the hospital solicited letters of support from community leaders as it sought approval to open the center. “We want to acknowledge and thank members of the York community that supported our project,” she said.

PMC also recently hosted a grand opening of its Piedmont West Urgent Care at 1190 Filbert Highway in York, where Oh said it has resumed operations.

The health care center, operated for years by PMC as part of a contract with York County, had been owned for the past several years by doctors Terry Hayes and Bryan Sink, who sold it back to PMC. The center includes a third location for York Family Medicine Associates, which has other offices in York and Clover.
