Clover’s Harper head coach in North-South golf
Lyn Harper, who has built the girls’ golf program at Clover High School, has been selected to coach in the S.C. Athletic Association North-South All-Star Girls’ Golf Classic.
The event will be Friday and Saturday at Timberlake Country Club in Chapin.
Harper will serve as head coach for the North team, which includes South Pointe High School standout Whitney Carter.
CHS bass fishing team to compete in Lake Wylie event
The Clover High School bass fishing team is preparing for a Nov. 15 competition at Lake Wylie.
The Clover bass fishermen will take on local professional fishermen from 2 to 5 p.m. at Hunt Fish Paddle in Lake Wylie.
Pros scheduled to attend are Britt Myers, Shane Lineberger, Bryan New, Bryan Thrift and others.
High school teams participating will be Clover, Nation Ford, Fort Mill, York Preparatory and Independence.
The youth and pro fishermen will have demonstrations all day and food will be sold.
York to host basketball clinic
The York Parks and Recreation Department and York Little Cougars will host a three-day basketball clinic on the fundamentals of the game on Tuesdays in November and December
The clinic, open to boys and girls ages 8 to 14, will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 and Dec. 1 and 8 at the York Recreation Center, 21 White Rose Lane.
The cost is $20 per child. Current and former York Comprehensive High School players and coaches will provide instruction.
Registration will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays at the recreation center. For information, call 803-684-3742 or visit the website, www.yorkcitysc.com.
York registering for youth basketball
The York Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting registration for youth basketball, open to boys and girls ages 5 to 14.
The cost is $30 during regular registration, which runs Nov. 2 to Dec. 7.
Age groups are 5 to 7, coed; 8 to 10, boys only; and 11 to 14, boys only. Girls ages 8 to 14 will participate in the Junior Cougar program, operated the York Comprehensive High School varsity and junior varsity coaches and players.
A copy of the child’s birth certificate must be on file before he or she can participate. Registration will end Dec. 7, and late registration will be Dec. 8 and 9, when the cost is $40.
Junior Cougar registration will continue through Jan. 5, with late registration on Jan. 6 and 7 with a cost of $40.

YCHS fall sports awards to be presented Nov. 19
The York Comprehensive High School fall sports awards ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19 in the school auditorium.
All fall sports teams will be recognized, except football. Cougar football players will be recognized at a later date to be determined, following the playoffs.
