York band finishes competition, plans Disney trip
The York Comprehensive High School band won first place and a grand championship during the regular season.
The York band was also the runner-up for the Upper State Championship and placed fifth in the state championship. The Cougar Band is planning a trip to Disney World in March.
District rezoning meetings set
The Clover School District will hold several rezoning information meetings.
Meetings start at 7 p.m. The remaining dates and locations are as follows:
▪ Nov. 12, Oakridge Middle School
▪ Nov. 30, Crowders Creek Elementary School
▪ Dec. 9, Clover Middle School
Bigger than Bullying 5K planned
The York school district will host a Bigger than Bullying 5K Nov. 21.
The 5K, organized by three York Comprehensive High School students, began last year to spread awareness. The project won state honors in DECA for community service and won a National PACER Award last spring. Runners and walkers are welcome.
The York school district’s bullying prevention program implementation began with a federally funded grant. Sue Hilton, coordinator of counseling services, and a trainer in Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, spearheads the district’s efforts.
CBCC offers chance at scholarship
The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas is giving high school and college students a chance to win a $1,000 college scholarship.
To qualify for a Holiday Heroes scholarship, students must host a blood drive Nov. 21-30 or Dec. 19-Jan. 9. CBCC will award a $1,000 college scholarship to the student who collects the most units.
