Western York County to host parades, holiday children’s events, tours
Western York County will mark the holiday season with children’s events, home tours, tree lightings and more.
Christmas parades
▪ Hickory Grove: Begins at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 near the old Oxford plant and travels down Wylie Avenue to the VFW building. The parade is sponsored by the Hickory Grove Fire Department. Line-up begins at 2 p.m. No entry fee. Registration: 803-925-2626.
▪ Clover: Begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 and goes through downtown Clover. To mark the parade’s 45th year, this year’s theme is “Toyland Christmas.” Entry fee is $30. Registration: 803-222-3312 or cloverchamber.org.
▪ Tirzah: Begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 on Tirzah Road between S.C. 5 and S.C. 161 in York. Any transportation acceptable. Parking available at Tirzah Presbyterian Church. Line-up begins at 2 p.m. No entry fee. Registration: 803-366-6682.
▪ The York Christmas parade will be Wednesday, Dec. 9, on Congress Street in downtown York. It begins at 4:30 p.m. For details, call 803-684-2590.
▪ Lake Wylie: The 27th annual “Lights on the Lake” Holiday Boat Parade begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 at Buster Boyd Access Area and T-Bones on the Lake. Line-up begins at 6 p.m. Entry fees are $20 before Dec. 11, $25 on the day of the parade. Registration: 803-831-2827.
York
These holiday events are planned in York:
▪ Christmas in Historic Downtown York, 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, presented by the York Downtown Business Association. Downtown businesses will be open with refreshments and Christmas caroling. Santa Claus will visit. Children can attend a free Christmas movie at the Sylvia Theatre, 27 N. Congress St.
▪ Breakfast with Santa, 8 to 10 a.m. Dec. 12, York Recreation Center, 21 White Rose Lane, hosted by the York Parks and Recreation Department. Tickets, available at the center, are $4 by Dec. 7 and $5 after Dec. 7 and at the door.
▪ Free movie night at the Sylvia Theatre, 6:48 p.m. Dec. 21, Sylvia Theatre, 27 N. Congress St., hosted by the York Parks and Recreation Department. The movie will be “The Flight Before Christmas.” Children must be with an adult. Concessions will be sold.
Clover
The town of Clover will host events leading up to its Dec. 6 Christmas parade:
▪ Merry Market with area craft vendors at 3 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Larne Building in downtown Clover. Vendors are welcome to participate for a $35 fee. For information from the Greater Clover Chamber of Commerce, go to cloverchamber.org and download the application.
▪ Christmas tree lighting and cookies with Santa, 6 p.m. Dec. 4 at Centennial Park in downtown Clover.
▪ Holiday movie at the Clover Community Center, Dec. 5, with pre-movie activities beginning at 4:30 p.m. A short film, “Mickey’s Christmas Carol,” will open the events, and the main feature, “Home Alone,” will begin at 6 p.m.

Christmas in Olde Sharon
The western York County town of Sharon will host its annual holiday celebration, Christmas in Olde Sharon, from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 11. It will include luminarias, lights, decorations, music, tours and food.
The Christmas Gift Pavilion will be at the Sharon Nursery, where vendors sell gifts by local artisans. The Sharon Nursery will have a live band and gifts for sale.
The Museum of Western York County will host tours and a bake sale, Sharon United Methodist Church will have dulcimer players and tours will be given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Williams, 1734 Dr. Saye Lane.
A soup supper will be served at the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department. Meals and other refreshments also will be available at the Sharon Grill, Brownies Sales, Winn Express, Stone’s Body Shop, Amanda’s Sassy Scissors and the Palmetto Lodge.
Santa will arrive by fire truck at the fire department at 7 p.m. Photos with Santa will be available. For information, call Town Hall at 803-927-1927.
Yorkville Historical Society home tour
The Yorkville Historical Society will host its Christmas in Olde York home tour from 3 to 7 p.m. Dec. 12 and Dec. 13. Tickets are $15 for a two-day pass, or $12 by 2 p.m. Dec. 12.
Tickets are available in advance and on tour days at the Greater York Chamber of Commerce, 23 E. Liberty St., York, or by calling 803-684-2590. Those who pay their society membership dues or already have a 2016 membership card can get the tickets for a discounted rate of $10.
Tour locations include Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 108 E. Liberty St.; and the homes of Gary and Paula Jo Gross, 110 E. Liberty St.; David and Lisa McKenzie, 112 E. Liberty St.; Charles and Cynthia Bradford, 6 College St.; Jayne Hassel, 202 E. Liberty St.; and Patrick Dandridge and Cyndi Mitchell, 105 E. Liberty St.
The tour also will feature J.H. Leake Furniture Makers, 1740 Filbert Highway, York, which is celebrating 60 years in business.
Parking signs will be posted along East Liberty Street. Refreshments and restrooms are available at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd and the York chamber office.

Clover Woman’s Club home tour
The Christmas in Historic Clover Tour, presented by the Clover Woman’s Club, will be 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 12 and 13.
The tour features 19th-century homes and the landmark Jackson’s Kitchen, owned by Mike Barrett, at 304 N. Main St., downtown Clover.
Homes include the circa 1846 Bigger house, owned by Kim and Tony Trainer, 233 Catamount Drive, Clover; the circa 1890 Magnolia House, known as the S.A. Sifford house, owned by Laura Brewer, 221 N. Main St., Clover; and the 1859 Martin Tate house, owned by Derrick and Tracie Miller, 2760 Lincoln Road, York.
Also included are two new Clover event venues, Red Boot Ranch, owned by Randy and Holt Harris, 1200 Peach Orchard Road, Clover; and Iron Gate Horse Farm, with manager Donnie Burris, 649 Bellegray Road, off Ridge Road, Clover.

Brattonsville candlelight tours
Historic Brattonsville will host its annual Southern-style Christmas in the Carolina Backcountry candlelight tours from 3 to 9 p.m. Dec. 5 and Dec. 12.
Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for youth ages 4 to 17. Children 3 and younger and Culture and Heritage Museum members are admitted free.
Re-enactors portraying the settlers, plantation owners and enslaved African-Americans of Brattonsville will bring to life the holiday seasons of the past through stories of people who lived there in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Families can participate in 18th- and 19th-century hands-on activities, a visit from Father Christmas, a campfire, holiday music and a visit to the Brattonsville gift shop. Hot beverages, seasonal foods and baked goods will be sold.
Historic Brattonsville is located at 1444 Brattonsville Road, McConnells. Brattonsville Road will be closed from 2:30 to 9 p.m. on tour days and there will be detour signs for guests to follow.
