Stellie center students plan Christmas musical
CLOVER The students of the Stellie J. Jackson Enrichment Center will feature a Christmas musical, “Let Earth Receiver Her King,” at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17 at Clover Chapel United Methodist Church on Kings Mountain Street in Clover.
The play, with traditional and contemporary tunes, highlights Christ in the past, present and forever.
Western county NAACP to meet Dec. 17

GOP Women’s Club installs officers
LAKE WYLIE The Clover-Lake Wylie Republican Women’s Club installed new officers at the Nov. 20 annual champagne tea membership at the home of Peggy Upchurch and Don Long.
New officers are Peggy Upchurch, President; Barbara Haba, first vice president, programs; Jamie Henrickson, second vice president, membership; Pam Cullen, third vice president, legislative liaison; Gloria Hein, secretary; and Margarett Blackwell, treasurer. They were sworn in by S.C. Sen. Katrina Shealy (R- Lexington).
Annual dues cost $25. Associate membership for men is $10.
Women’s club meeting Dec. 16
LAKE WYLIE The River Hills Women’s Club will meet Dec. 16 for a luncheon at River Hills Country Club. The Clover High School Choraliers led by Jay Forest will perform.
Social hour is 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with an open cash bar. The Choraliers will sing at 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m.

Registration opens for Joy of Gardening
ROCK HILL Early-bird registration is open for the 11th annual Joy of Gardening Symposium on Feb. 27 at Baxter Hood Center.
The keynote speaker is Norman Winter, director of the University of Georgia’s Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens in Savannah, Ga. A nationally syndicated columnist, Winter will discuss “Hot New Plants and Captivating Combinations.” He also will lead one of six break-out sessions, covering topics ranging from attracting pollinators to succulent gardens. Paula Gross, assistant director of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Botanical Gardens, will give the closing program.
Admission to the symposium, sponsored by the Master Gardeners of York County, also includes lunch, vendors offering garden-related products and door prizes.
The early registration fee, which includes lunch, is $50. After Dec. 31, the cost will be $60.

‘Nutcracker’ to be performed at Winthrop
ROCK HILL The York County Ballet presents “The Nutcracker” at 8 p.m. Dec. 17-19 and 3 p.m. Dec. 18-19 at Johnson Hall Theater at Winthrop University, Rock Hill.

Sign up for the 4-H/FFA Swine Project
YORK The Clemson Extension Service in York, Lancaster and Chester counties seeks youth to participate in the 2015-2016 4-H/FFA Swine Project Show and Sale.
Children ages 5-19 will obtain a feeder pig in January, raise it for three months and show the finished hog at the annual Swine Show and Sale. Participants must be age 5 by Jan. 1 and register as a 4-H member or be a registered FFA member in the Clover or York FFA Chapters to participate.
The show and sale is March 26 at the Chester Livestock Exchange in Richburg.

CLOVER The town of Clover is accepting submissions for Gallery 120, 120 Bethel St.
Artists should email an artist bio and three hi-res images of work to gallery120@cloversc.org, and include Monthly Artist Feature Submission in subject line.
Gallery 120’s Advisory Board Members for 2015-16 are Shanna Stanton, chairwoman; Alexandria Baker, vice-chairwoman; Jackie Clarkin, secretary; Debbie Sherwood, curator; LuAnne Lovelace, Barbara Denny, Andrea Meglii and Chris Williams.

Therapeutic center seeks volunteers
CLOVER RideAbility Therapeutic Riding Center in Clover welcomes new volunteers.
No experience necessary; training is provided.
The center helps families of children and adults with special needs build and improve strength, balance, core stability, focus and attention and increase confidence and self-esteem with facilitative interaction with horses and riding. RideAbility also serves veterans with its Equine Services of Heroes Program.
Those interested in the 2015 fall program for children and adults with special needs, the Equine Services for Heroes or the riding program can email rideabilitysc@gmail.com. Space is limited.
Sponsors, including individuals, churches or clubs, are also needed to provide financial support for children and adult riders and veterans.
Animal shelter needs volunteers
YORK The nonprofit Friends of the York County Animal Shelter needs volunteers to help bathe, groom, exercise, socialize, train and provide adoption information for the animals, as well as assist in follow-ups, publicity, marketing and fulfilling other jobs at the shelter.
