Voters speak out on choices for president
Ken and June Mills of Fort Mill both said they proudly voted on a straight party Republican ticket. June, a 66-year-old retiree, said she was voting to help keep insurance costs low for her daughter. She also felt Trump was the best choice for national defense. “I just feel like Hillary won’t go after ISIS as much as he would,” she said. “I’m looking for the one who will help with Homeland Security.”
Corrie Anderson, a 40-year-old stay-at-home mom from Fort Mill, also voted for Trump, citing reasons such as Supreme Court decisions and “the sanctity of life.”
Ken Mills of Fort Mill said Trump offered the best option because of his outsider status. “There have been a lot of promises made on both sides, and I just feel the Republican side is best for the direction of the country,” said Mills.
Rachel Cogar, 36, of Tega Cay, CEO of Puma Creative and Socially Conscious Brands, voted for Clinton. “I think in the end I think it’s important to look at her experience and think about the future of our country for my kids, including my daughter and myself, as a woman. I voted for Hillary because I think she’s the most qualified and most competent candidate.
Laura Peterson, 63, of Tega Cay, speech and hearing pathologist and teacher of children with hearing loss. Voted for Clinton. “The biggest issues to me were the character to be president, and (Trump’s) attitude toward people with disabilities.”
Bonnie Pregad, 73, of Fort Mill, who is retired, voted for Trump. “Because after 30 years Hillary hasn’t done anything.”
Elaine McConnell, 58, of Fort Mill, who works in sales, voted for Trump. “Because he is not part of the machine and I really do think the Clinton family is very corrupt.”
Gerry Wright, 46, of Tega Cay, who works in IT, voted for Clinton. “She just seems like the better candidate for me.”
